No you don't. This course is perfect for anyone from those who have never so much as held a mace, to those with many years of experience as a Drum Major.
The course is currently free of charge. The only cost will be in your travel, accommodation, and meals.
You will need a mace and a uniform. Ideally you will have two forms of dress, a day-wear uniform and your Number 1 dress. Let us know what type of uniform you have if you're not sure. If you do not have a mace, let us know and we might be able to accommodate you depending on how many participants are without.
The course will cover everything you need to be able to lead a band with confidence! We'll cover proper dress, verbal commands, hand and mace signals, uniform care and maintenance, music theory, competition parameters, and much more!
The closest airport is Victoria International Airport (YYJ). This is approximately a 30-minute drive to the training facility. A second option is to fly into Vancouver International Airport (YVR). That is typically a less expensive flight but does require a 3-hour drive including a ferry trip. An option for those driving from northwest USA is to drive up to Port Angeles, Washington and catch the drive-on Blackball Ferry across to Victoria.
There are many nice hotel options in Victoria. This is best done via an internet search, or by using a hotel location website. As far as proximity, The Armoury (our training facility) is located at 713 Bay St, Victoria, BC V8T 1R1, Canada. Anything within driving distance to that location that suits you is just fine. As with most places, the earlier you book, the cheaper it will be!
